The Callaway Chrome Soft X golf ball is very similar to its counterpart, the standard Chrome Soft. This is a Tour ball which is best suited for golfers with a clubhead speed over 105 mph looking for more distance while keeping great feel and control.

Other Golf Links. Alright-out of the box, it is clear that these are being ran in an old, worn mold down in Thailand.
The familiar hex pattern of past callaways is there, but softened. Initial impression out the box is meh bordering on what the fuck- noticeable crystallized nibs and slight imperfections. Nibs can mostly be flicked off, leaving a small nick of sorts. Nothing crazy, but several found on every ball. Quality control is not the priority of the day on these.
Cover softness with the fingernail, I'd call it equal to a nice clean pinnacle. On the course- I couldnt tell the difference between it and 'old' balls in my bag I was using as beaters (nearly new pinnacle gold, several year old clean nxt, banged up proV1, and a few who the hell knows cheapos,) hitting half dozen drives on every hole, then two or three from the best lie into the green. Drives, it and the Pinnacle seemed to hang out. Crisp off the face, nothing Im good enough to tell spin wise other than I seemed to leave the hex soft in the fairway more often, but Im sure this is mostly due to me focusing on it more as I was blasting away.Full wedges are the best part of my 13 handicap game. No complaints with this ball, it will stop especially compared to everything I was hitting, up until the NXT and ProV1. I can bring back the busted ProV1, but after several attempts at hacking thru middle earth, never got the Hex to really hot griddle around.
Downhill 100 yard shot with a 54 that I love hitting into, ProV1 dead stop hop left. Hex 2 couple foot skips and another 5 feet of flame out. Obvisously its going to lose out in this arena to the ProV1, and it hung with the NXT, but the NXT definitely provided more feedback to what was happening. The Hex soft was a bit dead and though it clearly stuck better than the other lineup of cheapos I was blasting -which is likely just due to the hex being brand new- there wasnt a noticeable feel difference between any of the cheap 'rock' types with the wedges. If you gave me this and a brand new pinnacle gold with no markings on either, I couldnt tell the difference. So, after 1 round hacking away with them on an empty course, Id say theyre a good value. Though Im kind of wishing I would have just bought the Vice tour 5 dozen pack for the extra 20 bucks. Their quality and consistency seems to be better all around from what I have read.
Oh well.tl;dr would you like your pinnacle gold to say callaway on it?.
